Dr. James Watson just celebrated his three year anniversary with Family Dentist Tree! He is a wonderful addition to our team, so our Business Manager, Marie, did an “interview” with him so you can get to know him just like we have!
Marie: Where were you born and raised?
Dr. Watson: I was born in Wichita, KS, but I have lived in Rochester since I was three years old. I am a graduate of Lourdes High School.
Marie: Tell us about your parents.
Dr. Watson: My mom is a retired dental hygienist. She retired about a year and a half ago and occasionally fills in at Family Dentist Tree, so you may have seen her! My father is a Regional Vice President for Quincy Newspapers Inc. overseeing radio and television stations in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and West Virginia. This includes KTTC, KXLT and KWBR in Rochester.
Marie: Do you have any siblings? What line of work did they follow?
Dr. Watson: I have three siblings. My oldest sister, Jennie, is a veterinarian at Heritage Pet Clinic in Rochester. My sister, Michelle, is an optometrist at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis. My twin brother, Dan, is an ophthalmologist in St. Louis.
Marie: What was your favorite activity when you were growing up?
Dr. Watson: I would love going to Lake Okoboji in Iowa with my family to go wake boarding or water skiing.
Marie: What was your first job?
Dr. Watson: I was a bellhop at a resort in Okoboji.
Marie: When did you realize you wanted to be a dentist?
Dr. Watson: I think the earliest I said I wanted to be a dentist was in 4th grade when we had to dress up as our future career. I have a lot of family in the dental profession, so I guess it was bound to happen!
Marie: What do you like to do in your free time?
Dr. Watson: It is nice to finally have free time after all those years of schooling! I’ve bee rediscovering hobbies as time goes by. I like to golf, hike, boat, and bike!
Marie: What is something you are really proud of and why?
Dr. Watson: I’m really proud of becoming a 4th generation dentist in my family! It took a lot of work!
Marie: Tell us about a memorable time in your life – a time you will never forget.
Dr. Watson: I remember the time well when my grandma thought she could take my twin brother and me to the Omaha Zoo by herself when we were little. We ended up running in separate directions! I even caught a bird in the rainforest. My poor grandma!
Marie: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Dr. Watson: Honestly, I would love to go anywhere! I love seeing new places and experiencing new things. As of right now, going to London or Amsterdam are two items on my bucket list.
Marie: When people look back at your life, how would you like to be remembered?
Dr. Watson: I hope I am remembered by how well I treated my patients. I strive to provide comfortable care with empathy and compassion.
If you have not met Dr. Watson yet, please feel free to ask for him at your next dental visit! He is excited to get to know all of our terrific patients!
